Bangladeshi Ambassador to Mexico Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey has invited international journalists to visit Bangladesh, emphasizing that the country is now open to global media.

“Foreign journalists once faced significant restrictions when visiting Bangladesh for professional reasons. However, those limitations have now been lifted. Shortly after assuming office, Chief Adviser Dr Mohammad Yunus removed this unwritten ban, inviting the international media to witness the real situation in Bangladesh,” he said.

He made the remarks at an informal reception held at Bangladesh House in Mexico City on Friday evening, where journalists gathered for an exchange of views.

During the discussion, media professionals congratulated Ambassador Mushfiqul on his new role and inquired about Bangladesh’s political landscape, upcoming elections, and its position on the global stage.

In response, Mushfiqul highlighted the role of students in shaping the country’s history.

“The youth of Bangladesh played a crucial role in ending long-standing dictatorship under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. Thousands of young people sacrificed their lives in the struggle,” he said.

Referring to a recent United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights report, he claimed that an investigation had found evidence of Sheikh Hasina’s involvement in violent crackdowns.

“The fight against Hasina’s prolonged autocratic rule has been driven by a commitment to restoring democracy and ensuring voting rights,” the ambassador added.

He further stated that Chief Adviser Yunus is determined to hold free and fair elections.

“The government is working towards organizing credible elections, either by the end of this year or early next year, by implementing necessary reforms to rebuild damaged institutions,” he said.

On Bangladesh-Mexico relations, Mushfiqul noted that this year marks 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

“We will work to enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen trade relations,” he said, adding that establishing a Mexican embassy in Bangladesh would be beneficial for both nations.
