The Thai government has decided to launch e-visa services for Bangladeshi nationals starting January 2.

Additionally, government officials will enjoy visa exemption benefits from December 19, Ambassador Makawadee Sumitmor announced at a Thailand National Day reception held at the embassy on Thursday night.

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed was also present, among others.

Thailand is a popular destination for Bangladeshi tourists and those seeking medical treatment.

The Thai embassy in Dhaka issues approximately 140,000 visas annually.

The e-visa service will allow ordinary passport holders to apply for their visas online, providing greater convenience from the comfort of their homes.

This service has already been implemented by Thailand in 69 embassies worldwide.

The visa exemption for government officials was agreed upon in April in Bangkok and will take effect on December 19.

Diplomatic passport holders have been benefiting from this exemption since 2018.

The Thai ambassador also highlighted the embassy's contributions to various humanitarian activities in Bangladesh.

She mentioned that 1 million Baht has been donated to UNHCR for forcibly displaced persons worldwide, 1 million Baht to Unicef for vulnerable populations in Myanmar and 1 million Baht to the WFP for food security initiatives for the Rohingya population in Bangladesh.
