New Delhi on Monday expressed deep regret over the breach of the Bangladesh mission's premises in Agartala, Tripura, emphasizing that diplomatic and consular properties should never be targeted.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said measures are being taken to enhance security arrangements at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and its other diplomatic posts across India.
The breach occurred during a protest by the Hindu Sangarsha Samiti, reportedly in response to the detention of former Iskcon leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh.
"The incident earlier today of the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is deeply regrettable. Diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances," read the statement.
"Government is taking action to step up security arrangements for the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and their Deputy/Assistant High Commissions in the country," it said.
