The High Court on Sunday denied bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote, in the Alif murder case in Chittagong.
A High Court bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher dismissed the rule issued over his bail petition. The court also fixed Monday for orders on his bail petitions in four other cases.
Advocate Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya appeared for Chinmoy Das, while Deputy Attorney General Shayla Sharmin and Assistant Attorney General Md Alamin represented the state.
Earlier, after the High Court granted him bail on April 30, 2025, in a sedition case over alleged disrespect to the national flag, he was shown arrested in five other cases.
On October 31, 2024, Firoz Khan, general secretary of Chandgaon Mohra ward unit of the city, filed a sedition case with Kotwali Police Station against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and 19 others. Chinmoy Das and several others were arrested in the case on November 25 that year.
Following the rejection of his bail petition in the sedition case, clashes broke out on the Chittagong court premises on November 26, 2025, amid protests by his followers. During the violence, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death.
Later, on September 1, 2025, the High Court issued a rule asking why Chinmoy Das should not be granted bail in five separate cases, including the murder case.
