Indian High Commissioner Pranay Kumar Verma met with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Sunday, discussing various bilateral issues between the two countries.
The high commissioner’s car entered the office around 4pm, accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner Pravin Badhe.
Following the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul told reporters: "We discussed how to deepen relations with Bangladesh. We raised issues such as water-sharing and the urgent need to address this problem. We also talked about the necessity of ending border killings and addressing security concerns."
The BNP secretary general added: "The Indian high commissioner assured us that they are aware of these issues and are working on resolving them swiftly. Their main focus is on strengthening ties with Bangladesh, particularly in light of the upcoming changes with the new interim government. They have already been in contact and wish to enhance relations with political parties, including the BNP, to foster better understanding and cooperation."
BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, who usually participates in such meetings with diplomats, was absent on Sunday as he is currently visiting the United States.
