The United States has dismissed speculations about US involvement in Bangladesh’s recent student-led protests, saying it is eager to work with the interim government led by Dr Muhammad Yunus.
“We continue to be ready and eager to work with interim government that’s led by Dr Yunus as it charts its democratic future for the people of Bangladesh,” Vedant Patel, principal deputy spokesperson for the United States Department of State, said at a regular press briefing in Washington on Monday.
Patel added that the US was closely monitoring developments in Bangladesh.
When asked about alleged Chinese influence in the protests, Patel declined to speculate.
The same reporter also mentioned claims from Indian media suggesting US involvement in the anti-government protests, noting India’s historical ties with the ousted government.
“So I’ve not seen those reports. But what I can unequivocally say is that they are not true. That’s probably why I’ve not seen them,” Patel replied.
