Update : 12 Jul 2024, 12:23 AM

The Bangladesh Army has recently taken delivery of 11 TATA Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, bolstering its capabilities in counter-insurgency operations and troop protection.

These robust vehicles, manufactured by TATA Motors Defence Solutions (TMDS) in India, are specifically designed for safeguarding personnel in hostile environments, according to the Indian Defence Research Wing.

The TATA MRAP, also known as the MPV (Mine Protected Vehicle) is a 4 x4 wheeled platform designed for military, paramilitary and police forces.

“The TATA MPV boasts a successful track record within India. Several Indian police forces, including those in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, utilize the MPV for operations in Naxal-affected regions.”

Technical specifications

The vehicle has a crew capacity of one driver, one co-passenger, and up to 12 troops. Its armored hull protects against mine blasts and small arms fire.

With a 4 x 4 drivetrain, it offers off-road capabilities. The dimensions are 6.58 metres in length and 2.60 metres in width. It has a gross vehicle weight of 14.3 tons and a payload capacity of 1,400 kilograms.

Earlier, Bangladesh media reported that those vehicles entered the Benapole port on Tuesday afternoon and were cleared from the port on Wednesday.
