Nasrul Hamid seeks enhanced collaboration with JICA for maritime Development

State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has emphasized the importance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as a steadfast partner seeking more collaboration in maritime Development.

He said this during a courtesy call by JICA's Senior Vice President Hara Shohei at his ministry office in Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.

Minister Nasrul Hamid said: "Japan and JICA are our tested friends. We look forward to further contributions from JICA towards human resource development here."

Discussions during the meeting covered various mutual interests, including the establishment of a land-based LNG terminal at the ash pond of Matarbari Power Plant and the development of solar power plants.

Highlighting the necessity of a pipeline to transport gas from Maheshkhali, Minister Nasrul expressed openness to JICA's potential investment in this infrastructure.

He said: "We have yet to fully harness the benefits of our vast oceanic blue economy. JICA can collaborate closely with Bangladesh in this endeavor."

Senior Vice President Hara Shohei underscored JICA's longstanding commitment to Bangladesh, annually investing in infrastructural development, capacity building, and environmental protection.

He also expressed JICA's interest in enhancing the capacity of Bangladesh Power Management Institute (BPMI) and discussed potential uses for unused land in Matarbari.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office Ichiguchi Tomohide, among others.
