Around 400 people of Chakma community are trying to intrude the Ghumdum border point in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban amid a fierce conflict between the Myanmar military and the armed rebel group, the Arakan Army, in Myanmar's Rakhine state.
Besides them, some Rohingyas have gathered in the border area.
Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) in Cox’s Bazar Mohammed Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter on Monday.
A food crisis has created in the border areas due to the fighting between the junta force and the rebel Arakan Army which is making their lives risky. For that they are now trying to intrude Bangladesh to save their lives, said the RRRC official.
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have strengthened patrolling and security along the border so that no more Rohingya or people from any other community could enter Bangladesh crossing the border, added Mizanur Rahman.
Meanwhile, the Myanmar force has dropped bombs from helicopters targeting the position of Arakan Army members from Monday morning.
At least two people were killed and a child was injured after a mortar shell, reportedly fired by Myanmar, fell on the Ghumdum border in Bandarban.
The incident took place at around 2:30pm on Monday when the shell hit an under-construction house in the Naikhongchhari upazila.
Soon after the incident, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police cordoned off the area.
Besides, five primary schools on Monday were declared closed amid the rising tension due to ongoing fighting in Myanmar.
This ongoing conflict has caused widespread panic among the locals.
Besides, a total of 95 members of Myanmar BGP on Sunday took shelter in Bangladesh amid a conflict between the Myanmar military and the armed rebel group, the Arakan Army, in Myanmar's Rakhine state.
Locals in the affected areas reported extensive gunfire, mortar shells, and explosive rocket launcher fire between Myanmar’s security forces and the Arakan Army (AA) and Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) along the border near the Naf River.
In response to the escalating violence, authorities have taken precautionary measures.
