Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Thursday said Bangladesh is ready to extend its support and eager to bolster partnership with Asean for fostering regional peace, prosperity and stability through sharing knowledge and experiences.

"We recognize the importance of strengthening relationships with Asean member states in trade, investment, technology, and human capital development," he said.

The foreign minister was speaking at a certificate awarding ceremony of the course ‘Enhancing Engagement between Bangladesh and the Asean Region” for Asean diplomats at Foreign Service Academy in the evening.

Ambassadors and High Commissioners of Asean Member States in Dhaka and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen were present.

Momen said Bangladesh looks forward to exploring opportunities for augmented collaboration with our friendly Asean nations in sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, technology, agriculture, blue economy and renewable energy.

"We are working to be a hub of regional connectivity for South Asian and Southeast Asian countries," he said.

Momen said Bangladesh is willing to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP) of Asean to deepen its relations with Asean member states and their people.

"To demonstrate our relative strength, relevance as well as willingness to become Asean Sectoral Dialogue Partner, we have taken various initiatives in collaboration with the Asean Secretariat," he said.

Momen reiterated Bangladesh's commitment and continued support to the Asean process and its centrality notion aimed at achieving collective security, peace and shared prosperity.

"Together, we can create a brighter and more prosperous future for our people," he said, hoping that Bangladeshi diplomats will continue to work hand in hand with their Asean colleagues in attaining those aims in the days to come.
