Amar Bangladesh Party, AB Party, delegation met Jan-Rolf Janowski, German Chargé d'Affaires a.i. (At Interim) at Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh, on Sunday afternoon at its embassy.
The delegation was represented by Asaduzzaman Fuaad, a barrister-at-law and a Joint Member Secretary, and Nasreen Sultana Mily, a barrister-at-law and in-charge of AB Party Women.
Silke Schmeer, Political, Press and Cultural Attaché were also present at the dialogue.
The AB Party delegation started up the conversation by outlining the context and history of formation of the party as well as the challenges that the party has been undergoing through the last four years.
Terming the initiative as a “second generation” political party, the delegation observed that the nation, specially the youths, are sick and tired seeing the old fashioned dynastic politics with no vision of ever changing world and mindset due to high-tech globalization.
The delegation had a frank conversation in regards to the ongoing political deadlock in the country which is essentially down to undoing of the historic and unanimous “political settlement” in 1996 that was arbitrarily repealed through the fifteenth amendment to the constitution in 2011.
Out of the 11 national parliamentary elections, only 4 were considered relatively free, fair and credible due to those being held under the neutral caretaker government, each time the incumbent failed to get re-elected.
The conversation then moved on to judicial harassment of eminent citizens of the country as well as Human Rights defenders like Nobel laureate Dr Yunus, Adilur Rahman Khan, Secretary of HR organization ‘Odhikar’.
Chargé d'Affaires a.i. praised the different perspective of new politics based on policies and problem solving.
The AB Party delegation appreciated the Federal Republic of Germany's recognition of Bangladesh in 1972, one of the very first nations to do so, progressive bilateral relationship starting from trade, exports to our students studying in various universities in Germany. German Chargé d'Affaires a.i was asked to get more students with scholarships to further strengthen our historic partnership.
