Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, after his meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, said that "gladdening progress" had been made in the bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries over the last nine years.
Both leaders witnessed the signing of three MoUs - Cooperation on Agricultural Research and Education between the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Extension of the Cultural Exchange Program from 2023 to 2025, and network connectivity between Bangladesh Bank and the National Payments Corporation of India to facilitate transactions in rupees and taka for trade.
"Had productive deliberations with PM Sheikh Hasina. The progress in India-Bangladesh relations over the last nine years has been very gladdening. Our talks covered areas such as connectivity, commercial linkage and more," Modi said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, in a media briefing in New Delhi, described the meeting as "fruitful".
"We believe that these fruitful and open discussions between the two prime ministers in a very sincere atmosphere will accelerate the resolution of outstanding issues between the countries and benefit both peoples," he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday went to New Delhi on a three-visit to attend the G20 summit in New Delhi at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
Bangabandhu's youngest daughter Sheikh Rehana is accompanying her elder sister Hasina during the visit.
A red carpet was rolled out to welcome the Bangladesh prime minister. She was received by Indian Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Vikram Jardosh.
A cultural team also performed a welcome dance at the airport.
