Jatiya Party Secretary General Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Saturday told a visiting election exploratory mission from the European Union (EU) that his party's one-point demand is free and fair elections.
He voiced the demand at a meeting with the EU delegation.
“We want a fair election. The people of the country also want an acceptable election. The role of the government and the Election Commission is very important to make the election acceptable,” Mujibul Haque told reporters after the meeting.
Political problems should be resolved through dialogue, he added, urging the government to initiate talks in this regard.
“Dialogue should be initiated by the government. There will be no solution without dialogue. The Awami League and the BNP both revealed with their one-point movement. The BNP wants the resignation of the government while the Awami League wants the election to be held under Sheikh Hasina,” said the Jatiya Party leader.
“The only demand of the Jatiya Party is… we want a fair election,” he said.
“We had a meeting with the delegation of the European Union. Another EU delegation will come to Bangladesh on July 23. They will also discuss with various parties for the sake of free, fair and acceptable elections. The European Union delegation also discussed sending observers to the upcoming election,” said Mujibul Haque.
Jatya Party Chairman GM Quader led the delegation.
