Japan professor spends 2 days with underprivileged children in Dhaka

Prof Akinori Seki said the talent of the boys and girls of Switch School is extraordinary

Japan's Prof Akinori Seki, president of Asia Association of Education and Exchange (AAEE), has recently spent two days with the students of two schools for the underprivileged at Dhaka Udyan, Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

Switch Bangladesh Foundation has been working with underprivileged children since 2011, said a press release.

At the two schools there are more than 400 students from class I to VIII where they study for free. 

Students of various universities, including Dhaka University, regularly give lessons there. 

The underprivileged children there are involved in various cultural activities besides studies – some students draw pictures on canvas, some make crafts, some do graphic design. 

They also have a computer lab with advanced technology. 

Prof Akinori Seki said the talent of these boys and girls is extraordinary. If they continue this extraordinary talent, they will develop as social reformers in Bangladesh. Through them Bangladesh will change in the future.


In the light of his experience, he specifically noted that underprivileged children at this school are different from children in other countries because they witness the good and bad aspects of society up close due to being underprivileged. 

Japanese embassy official Emika Pradhan was present. 

She said the students of Switch School have many talents. 

Moinul Ahsan Faisal, the founder and general secretary of Switch Bangladesh Foundation, said all these boys and girls are incredibly talented. The goal of Switch Bangladesh Foundation is to build a modern and poverty-free Bangladesh by utilizing the talents of all these boys and girls. 

Through the organization of various programs for two days such as an awareness campaign on cleanliness, quiz competition, science project presentation, chess competition, and Japanese speeches on morals and values. 

Prof Etmina Ahmed, the Department of Chemistry, University of Dhaka, Nafisa Khanom, the head teachers' trainer, Agami Education Foundation, Bayzid, treasurer, Mustafizur Rahman, chief coordinator of Switch Bangladesh Foundation, were also present.
