Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed his intention to visit Bangladesh soon.
He said this in a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Monday afternoon, reports Bangla Tribune.
Earlier, Lavrov was scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on November 23 to attend the Indian Ocean Cooperation Alliance (IORA) ministerial meeting. However, due to schedule complications, the Russian authorities confirmed that he will not come to Dhaka.
The two ministers discussed the bilateral connection between Bangladesh and Russia over the phone and expressed their interest to elevate the bilateral partnership to a new level, according to a notification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Minister Momen emphasized the Soviet Union's contribution to Bangladesh's struggle for independence and declared that Bangladesh will always remember the Soviet Union's contribution with appreciation.
Momen sought Russia's help in Rohingya repatriation. In light of this, Lavrov promised to speak with Myanmar.
The two ministers discussed a variety of topics, including Bangladesh and Russia's collaboration in the UN and other international organizations.
Lavrov also congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on behalf of the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In addition, Momen requested Russian President Putin to visit Bangladesh on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and praised Russia for helping Bangladesh build a nuclear power plant.
