Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, has urged personnel to place the highest priority on their professional responsibilities while serving the public.
He made the call on Sunday at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters during the Director General's Commendation Award ceremony, attended by officials and staff from across the organisation.
A total of 136 officers and employees from across the country were honoured with the Director General's Commendation Award for their outstanding contributions to administrative and operational duties. Each recipient received a commendation insignia, certificate and cash award.
The programme began with a one-minute silence in memory of recently deceased diver Sadik, followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran.
Speaking as chief guest, Jahed Kamal expressed satisfaction with the Fire Service's emergency response and operational performance nationwide. He particularly praised personnel for their efforts during recent flood and landslide rescue operations in the Chittagong region.
Emphasising the organisation's service-oriented mandate, he said safeguarding lives and property must remain its foremost priority.
"As a public service institution, the Fire Service and Civil Defence must give the highest importance to fulfilling its professional responsibilities," he said.
During the event, Netrokona Deputy Assistant Director Zakir Hossain, speaking on behalf of the award recipients, thanked the Director General for introducing the commendation award and lauded his close oversight of administrative and operational activities across the country.
Director (Administration and Finance) Md Shahid Atahar Hossain also addressed the ceremony.
