The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it would take strict action against diplomat Kazi Anarkoly over the allegations of possession of narcotics at her home in Indonesia.
Representatives of the Foreign Ministry made the remark in a parliamentary committee meeting at Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Muhammad Faruk Khan, chairman of Bangladesh's Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, told Bangla Tribune: “At present, she is placed as an officer on special duty. Besides, a committee is working. If she is found guilty, maximum administrative penalty could be imposed.”
He added that a letter had been sent to the Indonesian government to learn details of what happened there.
Anarkoly, the former deputy chief of the Jakarta Mission, was detained for allegedly having a large amount of marijuana in her home and was brought back from Jakarta.
The Indonesian government’s narcotics control authority raided Anarkoly’s apartment in Jakarta in the first week of July. She was detained afterwards but was released later due to the diplomatic immunity, particularly at the request of the Indonesian government.
Muhammad Faruk Khan also said: “We will also seek information of the officials and employees of various missions who have been involved in different forms of crime in the past 10 years and what kind of disciplinary measures have been taken against them.”
