The procedure to import 500MW hydropower from Nepal is nearly complete, Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has said.
He said that the government wants to import more hydropower from Nepal and Bhutan mentioning that importing power from India is also under consideration. In this case, the state minister said that the World Bank can work on capacity building for power division officials.
Nasrul Hamid said this following a meeting with a World Bank delegation at the ministry on Tuesday.
The state minister said that the power division is working diligently to promote electric vehicles in the country. EV guidelines or policies have already been developed, he added.
Bangladesh has about four million battery-powered three-wheelers and it is necessary to use lithium batteries instead of lead batteries for these vehicles.

World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region Martin Raiser, who led the WB delegation, discussed cross-border trade, regional power pools, regional power markets in South Asia, power imports from Nepal and Bhutan, and e-mobility of power.
Nasrul Hamid also said that 2,000MW of electricity will be generated from renewable sources in the next two years. Another 6,000MW will be generated from renewable sources, and the process is in the pipeline.
