The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has sent a letter to its Myanmar counterpart following the abduction of 18 fishermen from the Bay of Bengal near Teknaf on Tuesday.
BGB-2 Captain Lt Col Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar told Dhaka Tribune that the Border Guard Police (BGP) forces had not replied to the letter yet.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Parvez Chowdhury told Dhaka Tribune that he had heard of the incident. None of the families of abducted fishermen filed a complaint, he added.
All the fishermen are from Subrang, according to Abdus Salam, a member of the Union Parishad.

They were returning home after fishing on Tuesday afternoon when they saw a boat sinking near Naikkhyongdia of Teknaf-Saint Martin’s Island route.
The fishermen were confronted by BGP when they salvaged the boat and were preparing to return to the shore, he added.
Abdus Salam alleged that the BGP men had abducted the fishermen at gunpoint and also taken away the fishing trawlers.
