Update : 09 Apr 2017, 01:59 AM
When Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ends her India trip and departs for Bangladesh on April 10, Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Tripura, the Dhaka and Agartala chapters of “Friends of Bangladesh,” and the Agartala Press Club will observe the first Bangladeshi government in Agartala. Bangladesh’s first government, with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as president and Tajuddin Ahmad as prime minister, was formed at Agartala’s old Circuit House, located between the Tripura Governor’s official residence, Raj Bhavan, and the current Assistant High Commission office. “To mark the day, a series of events has been organised here. Bangladesh’s MPs, policy makers, former ministers, film makers, artists, performers and veterans of the Bangladesh Liberation War will take part in the events,” said Professor Mihir Deb, president of the Agartala chapter of Friends of Bangladesh, an NGO. “A seminar will also be held with academicians and historians taking part. A play will be staged on April 11 by Bangladeshi actors to showcase the nine-month long war of independence,” said Deb, a renowned scholar and respected contributor to the war.
