Army chief off to Congo and Sudan

During the eight-day visit, He will inspect the contingents of Bangladesh Army deployed as UN peacekeeping forces in the African countries

The Bangladesh army chief is scheduled to leave on Monday night to visit peacekeeping missions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.

During the eight-day visit, Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed will inspect the contingents of Bangladesh Army deployed as UN peacekeeping forces in the African countries. He will also make courtesy calls on the top leaders of both countries, said a press release of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.

Gen Aziz will have a courtesy meeting with force commander and deputy special representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG). He will also join in a discussion with the governor of Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

He will also meet the SRSG, force commander, direct mission support and chief of defence force during his visit to South Sudan, the release added.

He will return home on April 27.
