Myanmar to send probe commission to Cox's Bazar

Update : 28 Feb 2017, 06:44 PM
Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh U Myo Myint Than conveyed his government's interest in sending the commission during his visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, a ministry official told the Dhaka Tribune. The date of the visit has not been set yet, but it will happen soon, said a diplomatic source. The 13-member commission was formed by presidential order on December 1 last year to probe into the series of attacks on border police in Myanmar's Maungdaw and Rathedaung townships on October 9. Earlier in January, three members of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State – also known as the Kofi Annan Commission – visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar. Last week, UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar Yanghee Lee also visited the refugee camps in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila. She urged the Myanmar government to take immediate actions to resolve the humanitarian crisis.
