Minister for Foreign Affairs AH Mahmood Ali has shared his condolences for the death of US Senator John S McCain.
In a message to US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, Mahmood said: “I am deeply saddened, and on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the government and the people of the US, and particularly to the bereaved family.”
Mahmood also said: “The late senator was a real American hero and a leader in the public service of the nation. His commendable work in the Senate, and firm stand against the atrocities on Rohingyas in Myanmar, made him stand out as a strong voice for global humanity.
“McCain’s family’s bond with Bangladesh is a special one, as his adopted daughter Bridget McCain is of Bangladeshi origin,” he also said.
“We will remember the late senator with reverence as a great friend of Bangladesh. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
