According to the foreign ministry source, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hold a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Munich later this month.
“The prime minister has held meetings with Merkel in the past, but this time the situation is different,” the foreign ministry official told the Bangla Tribune.
Hasina is going to Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference (MSC) on February 17.
“Germany is Bangladesh's second largest export market, where Bangladesh exports goods worth about a billion euros,” the official said. “Berlin also assists us in our development works.”
“The discussion will likely focus on bilateral, regional and global issues.”
Hundreds of participants will attend the 53rd edition of the MSC from February 17-19 to debate critical security challenges.
The conference agenda focuses on the future of transatlantic relations and NATO after Donald Trump's election, the state of EU cooperation in security and defence matters, the Ukraine crisis and relations with Russia, war in Syria, and the security situation in the Asia-Pacific.
