Bangladesh and Indonesia have agreed to renew their bilateral flights agreement to upgrade connectivity by considering the opening of direct flight services between the two countries, reports The Jakarta Post.
The renewed agreement will revise the previous agreement made on September 5, 1997, in a meeting at Jakarta, the Indonesian embassy said in a press release on Saturday.
Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Rina P Soemarno said: "The renewal of the Indonesia-Bangladesh air services agreement is an opportunity to unlock business opportunities and tourism potential between the two countries."
According to Rina, Bangladesh suggested Dhaka and Chittagong as options for cities that can have direct flights to Indonesia.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) invited its Indonesian counterpart to further discuss about the agreement renewal in a bilateral meeting in Dhaka.
Indonesia’s Director of Air Transportation from the Transportation Ministry Maria Kristi Endah Murni and CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Naim Hassan were present in the meeting.
