Bangladesh Ambassador to Greece Md Jashim Uddin presented his credentials to the President of Greece, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Wednesday at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Athens.
Warmly felicitating the Bangladesh Ambassador upon his assignment, the Greek president said Bangladesh and Greece enjoy friendly bilateral relations.
The existing relations may further be strengthened in different areas to the benefits of the peoples of the two countries, he added.
Referring to Bangladeshi immigrants living and working in Greece, the president said: “The Bangladesh nationals are working in Greece with good reputation.”
In response, the Bangladesh ambassador recalled the recognition of Bangladesh by Greece in March 1972 after the home-coming of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He mentioned that there is potential for increasing bilateral trade and investments and underscored the need for exchange of high level visits between Bangladesh and Greece.
With regard to the Bangladesh expatriates in Greece, he said that they are law abiding and hardworking.
He said that the Bangladeshi workers are contributing not only to the development of Bangladesh but also to that of Greece.
He thanked the Greek government for ensuring safety and security of Bangladeshi expatriates.
The new Ambassador briefed the Greek President about the policy of the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in particular the “Digital Bangladesh” and “Vision 2021”.
He said that the Bangladesh government is putting up all out efforts for raising the living standard of the people and turning the country into a middle-income country.
He also mentioned the active and engaged role of Bangladesh in international issues including protection of Global Environment for which the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, is being awarded the environmental accolade “Champions of the Earth” by the UN.
During the ceremony, the Secretary General of the Greek President’s Office as well as the Secretary General of the Greek Foreign Ministry were present among other high officials.
