Students attending the “Kuashar Gaan” concert at the Dhaka University central ground on Saturday evening were seen raising sarcastic counter-slogans in response to chants initiated by a Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) leader.

The incident occurred around 9pm during the concert, which was jointly organised by “Spirits of July” and Ducsu.

According to witnesses, Ducsu Literature and Culture Secretary Musaddik Ali Ibne Mohammad began raising slogans from the stage and prompting the audience to respond. When he chanted “Quota or reform?”, a section of students responded with “Quota, quota,” while another group mockingly shouted “Uranium, uranium.”

Similarly, when Musaddek raised the slogan “Slavery or reform?”, some students shouted “Jobs in the UK.” Later, as he began the familiar student movement chant “Who am I, who are you?”, students responded with sarcastic calls of “Musaddik, Musaddik.”

Abdul Quader, a resident student of Bijoy Ekattor Hall from the 2022–23 academic year who was present at the concert, told reporters that the sarcastic chants reflected students’ frustration with the Ducsu Literature and Culture Editor.

“Students raised these slogans out of annoyance,” he said, adding that Musaddek’s controversial statements and positions at various times had created negative sentiment among many general students.

The musical concert, titled X Force Presents Kuashar Gaan, was sponsored by City Bank and drew thousands of university students to the venue on the winter evening.

However, the exchange of slogans and counter-slogans has since sparked widespread discussion and criticism on social media.
