East West University (EWU) and the Unesco Dhaka Office jointly organized an inaugural team-building meeting to form a network among public and private universities on Media and Information Literacy (MIL).
The meeting was followed by a workshop on Strategies for a Healthy Digital Ecosystem.
The event was held on Sunday at the EWU Campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka.
Dr Susan Vize, Unesco representative to Bangladesh, highlighted Unesco’s role in advancing MIL.

Professor Dr Dilara Begum proposed to form a "Steering Committee" and outlined the network’s objectives.
Noore Jannat Proma from Unesco Dhaka elaborated on the network’s planned key activities.
Professor Dr Shams Rahman, vice chancellor of EWU, delivered closing remarks for the morning session, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in MIL initiatives.
The afternoon workshop focused on fostering a healthy digital ecosystem.
Professor Dr Saiful Alam explored Navigating the Digital Maze: Understanding Misinformation, Disinformation and Fake News, while Professor Dr Dilara Begum shared insights on Fact-Checking in the Digital Age: Essential Tools and Techniques.

Mr Nadim Farhad addressed strategies for Mitigating Hate Speech and Promoting Respect.
Faculty members and students from 16 public and private universities actively participated and shared their experiences.
Their collective efforts were expected to foster institutional collaboration and support the integration of MIL into higher education curricula across the nation.
