Sir Syed Day celebrated in Dhaka

The event paid tribute to the visionary founder of Aligarh Muslim University, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s 207th birthday

The Aligarh Old Boys' Association of Bangladesh hosted its Sir Syed Day 2024 celebration, held at a hotel in the capital on Friday.

The event paid tribute to the visionary founder of Aligarh Muslim University, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s 207th birthday.

The event attracted alumni, scholars, and well-wishers who gathered to honor Sir Syed’s remarkable contributions to education and social reform.

The evening commenced with a warm welcome speech from General Secretary Mohammed Abdul Kader Kibria.

The chief guest, Dr Syed Ferhat Anwar, vice-chancellor of Brac University, delivered an insightful address, emphasizing the ongoing influence of Sir Syed's educational vision on current academic institutions.

Mr M Riaz Hamidullah, additional secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered the keynote speech.

The special guest, Engineer Mohiuddin Khan, shared his thoughts.

Dr Rejuan Hossain Bhuiyan, president of the Aligarh Old Boys' Association of Bangladesh, presided over the event and reflected on the lasting legacy of Sir Syed, urging the audience to continue upholding the values of education, tolerance, and reform that Sir Syed championed.

The evening concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr Osama Taseer, convener of the event, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the distinguished guests, alumni, and participants who made the evening memorable.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the organizing team and the supporters of the event.
