Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud on Friday said that the looted arms from various police stations during the July mass uprising would not be a threat to our overall security.
“It is true that, in a certain context, many arms were looted. But as far as I know, most of the weapons have been recovered. A small number are still missing, but we do not consider that a threat to our overall security. The recovery of weapons is still ongoing”, he came up with the revelation on Friday morning while responding to journalists’ questions after a view-exchange meeting with polling officials at the auditorium of Nilphamari Government College.
Referring to postal voting, Abdur Rahmanel said, ‘the authorities are 100 percent vigilant about expatriate voting and would not compromise on the issue’.
“Even if it costs us votes, we will not accept a single postal ballot that could raise questions about the transparency of the election,” he said.
He added that there would be no compromise in ensuring a free and fair electoral process.
Nilphamari Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Nairuzzaman presided over the view-exchange meeting.
Speakers at the meeting included Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Saidul Islam, Rangpur Regional Election Officer Delwar Hossain, and Nilphamari District Election Officer Mohammad Lutfool Kabir, among others.
