National Citizens Party (NCP) convener and Dhaka-11 parliamentary candidate Nahid Islam on Sunday said the electoral playing field remains uneven, alleging attempts by rival forces to intimidate his party’s leaders and supporters.
“Despite intimidation, they are not succeeding. February 12 will be the last day for extortionists, terror and squatters,” he told reporters during an election campaign in the Satarkul area of Badda in the capital on Sunday morning.
While campaigning, Nahid Islam highlighted the longstanding problems and crises faced by residents of the area and assured voters that he would work to address them if elected.
He said the upcoming election is not merely about a change of power, but about building a new Bangladesh, adding that the response from voters has been encouraging.
Urging voters to cast their ballots freely and without fear, the NCP convener said the outcome of the election would shape the future of the country. “This vote will decide the fate of Bangladesh,” he said.
He also called on voters not to be swayed by inducements or false promises. “Do not vote in exchange for benefits or empty assurances. Vote after careful consideration for the candidate who is truly capable of bringing change to your area and the country,” he added.
During the campaign, Nahid Islam urged people to vote ‘yes’ in the referendum alongside casting their votes for the Shapla Kali symbol. Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and the NCP were present during the campaign activities.
