Finance Affairs Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on has said the government will be able to continue all types of activities once the election schedule is announced, except those that could directly influence the polls.
“Just because the schedule is announced, will our budget stop? Will salaries stop? Will all projects be suspended?” he questioned while speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Public Procurement at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
He said ongoing initiatives, including the planned merger of five banks and nine NBFIs, will proceed as usual.
Salehuddin also noted that reducing inflation from a high point is challenging. “We have brought it down from 14. Inflation cannot be controlled only by tightening monetary policy or interest rates.”
