Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said the 13th parliamentary election will be held in the first half of February next year.
“The election date will be disclosed two months before the schedule is announced,” he said while responding to questions from journalists after a meeting with deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of the eight districts of Rangpur division at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office in Rangpur on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier in the morning, at a views exchange meeting at the conference room of the Regional Election Officer’s Office in Rangpur, CEC said: “Law and order will be a major challenge in the upcoming election, especially considering the special circumstances that have arisen in the country. However, I would say that law and order has improved significantly since July-August last year.
"We can sleep now. Our police brothers cannot sleep; they are continuing to provide service. By the time the election comes, the situation will improve further. With the participation of all members of the law enforcement agencies, we want to create such an environment that people can vote for their preferred candidates without fear.”
“Restoring public trust in the election system is now a major challenge. People have lost confidence in the system. Bringing them back to the polling centres will be a big task,” he said.
Nasir stressed that the EC will not work for or against any particular party in the national election.
