Polls to Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila postponed

Decision comes as two chairman candidates are fighting a legal battle in the High Court

The Election Commission has postponed polls to several upazila parishads due to different reasons. 

The election to Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila has been postponed on the grounds of administrative reasons and legal complexities.

A message in this regard was circulated in the media on Sunday afternoon. Election Management Deputy Secretary Md Atiyar Rahman confirmed the matter in a letter as well. 

The respective officials have also been asked to follow the instructions in this regard.

The decision came as two chairman candidates contesting the polls, Kamal Hossain and Tajul Islam Taj, are also fighting a legal battle at the High Court. 

Polls to six other upazilas were postponed on different grounds. The polls to Babuganj, Wazirpur and Banaripara upazilas in Barisal district were deferred to the fourth phase, but Muladi and Hizla upazilas in Barisal were incorporated in the second phase.

The election to Ruma Upazila in Bandarban was postponed due to administrative reasons.
