  • Candidates, activists busy with electioneering
  • PM set to address rally in Narayanganj

Update : 04 Jan 2024, 01:54 PM

Campaigning for the 12th general election ends at 8am on Friday, effectively making Thursday the last opportunity for candidates to present their ideas and positions to people before polling.

With this deadline in mind, the candidates of all political parties contesting the election and their activists were busy on the last day of campaigning.

Election Commission officials said once the clock hit 8am on Friday, no candidate would be allowed to participate in rallies, gatherings marches or processions.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the chief of the Awami League, is scheduled to join her party's concluding election rally on Thursday in the port city of Narayanganj.

Polling in 299 constituencies will take place from 8am to 4pm on January 7, a day after campaigning ends. The Election Commission earlier cancelled voting in Naogaon-2 following the death of a candidate.

Article 78 of the Representation of the People Order puts restrictions on public meetings and processions within the constituency area 48 hours before polling begins until 48 hours after voting concludes.

There have been many incidents of violence and violations of the electoral code of conduct since the start of election campaigning on December 18, prompting action from the Election Commission.
