Jatiya Party candidate for Gaibandha-2 (Sadar) constituency Abdur Rashid has been summoned by the national parliamentary election inquiry committee for violating the electoral code of conduct.
He has been directed to appear in person and submit a written explanation by 3pm on Sunday.
The summons was issued on Friday through a notice signed by the chairman of the constituency's election inquiry committee, Gaibandha District and Sessions Judge Md Shariful Islam.
According to the notice, the committee became aware of an election poster printed in Gaibandha's local newspaper “Daily Ghagot” on December 27. The poster featured pictures of Jatiya Party's former chairman, the late Hussain Muhammad Ershad, and the current chairman, GM Quader. As per the rules, only the image of the current chairman can be used.
Abdur Rashid violated the election code of conduct by publishing a poster with pictures of both individuals in the newspaper.
The notice requires Abdur Rashid to provide a written explanation regarding why the Election Commission should not be recommended to take action for violating the election rules.
In response, Jatiya Party candidate Abdur Rashid said: “I have received the notice from the election inquiry committee. I will appear in the committee's office within the stipulated time and provide a written reply.”
