At least 10 people were injured in alleged attacks during several election campaigns of independent candidate and upazila Awami League President Muntakim Ashraf Titu in Comilla-7 (Chandina) constituency on Friday.
During the incidents, the car of Tanim, son of municipal Mayor Shaukat Bhuiya, was vandalized and several rounds of firing also occurred.
Muntakim Ashraf Titu filed a complaint through journalists on Friday night, blaming Awami League candidate and MP Dr Pran Gopal Datta for the incident.
Titu said that around 5pm on Friday, when his supporters were campaigning in front of Harong High School in Chandina municipality, leaders of Awami League, led by Comilla North district Swechasebak League member Shamim Hossain, attacked them. During this incident, his supporters were beaten and injured.
Another attack took place in front of Srimantapur Mosque in Barakit Union of the upazila during another mass meeting of party activists and supporters, he added.
Comilla North district Swechasebak League member Shamim Hossain said: "People of the independent candidate are spreading propaganda. I was not in the Harong area in the afternoon. I was elsewhere with MP Dr Pran Gopal."
Awami League candidate Dr Pran Gopal denied the attack, calling it a staged drama.
He added that his leaders and activists were not involved in this incident.
Chandina police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Ahmed Sanjur Morshed said that he heard about the attack and is looking into the details.
