Campaigning for the upcoming 12th national polls, scheduled for January 7, has begun in the Bogra-1 (Sariakandi-Sonatala) constituency with much enthusiasm.
Awami League, Jatiya Party, Trinamool BNP, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD), and independent candidates and their workers are running from door to door to voters.
Posters of candidates have been hung at various junctions and important areas of the constituency. Following the rules, the constituency becomes festive from 2pm to 8pm, when candidates begin their campaigns on loudspeakers.
Of the total 10 aspirants in the Bogra-1 constituency, six of them belong to various parties and four of them are independent candidates.
The 10 candidates are- Shahadara Mannan Shilpi, MP, (Awami League) Golam Mostafa Babu Moldol (Jatiya Party) NM Abu Jihad (Trinamool BNP), Anwar Hossain (Tariqat Federation), Nazrul Islam (Khilafat Andolan), Hasan Akbar Afzal (Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal), Mostafizur Rahman (Idenpendent), Shahzadi Alam Lipi (Independent), Yasir Rahmatullah Intaz (Independent) and Md Shokrana (Indenpendent).
So far, locals said the workers of Shahadara Mannan Shilpi’s are the most active.
Meanwhile, after getting their symbol, Shahzadi Alam Lipi, who did not get Awami League nomination, started her campaign through a colourful march.
Another independent candidate (former BNP leader) Md Shokrana also started campaigning through a procession.
Independent candidate KSM Mostafizur Rahman Shyamol, who was deprived of the Awami League nomination, is also in the field. Yasir Rahmatullah Intaz and his workers are campaigning in the last by-election in this constituency.
Sariakandi and Sonatala upazilas of the constituency have been affected by erosion by the Bangali and Jamuna rivers.
Talking to the locals, it was learned that many roads in the char areas and villages of the two upazilas are unfit.
Unlike other parts of the country, there has been no development here. No permanent measures have been taken to prevent river erosion as well.
