Election Commissioner Md Alamgir has said there will be competitive voting in a fair environment, and anyone may go to the polling centres and vote for their preferred candidate, before safely returning home.
He made the assurance at a views-exchange meeting at the Gazipur deputy commissioner's office on Sunday.
Alamgir said: "The purpose of my coming here is to ensure that the election is participatory, impartial, fair and peaceful so that voters can exercise their franchise without fear. Those in charge of administration and law enforcement will have to create an environment in which all voters can vote enthusiastically and joyfully."
In answer to a journalist's query, he said it is not only in the case of Gazipur but throughout the country. “Our intelligence agencies, as we have been assured, are functioning well.”
“Do not spread rumours. Inform the local authorities and law enforcement if you have any information. They will take action against rumour-mongers,” he added.
