Among the 15 parliamentary constituencies in Dhaka city, 26 candidates, including Jatiya Party Chairman Ghulam Muhammed Quader, the party's influential member of parliament Kazi Firoz Rashid and Awami League's Habib Hasan, are withdrawing their candidature.
They withdrew their candidature on the last day of withdrawal of nominations on Sunday.
The candidates who have withdrawn their candidature from the Dhaka Metropolitan seat are: Zaker Party's Md Rabiul Islam from Dhaka-4 seat, Jatiya Party's Mir Abdus Sabur and independent candidate Kazi Monirul Islam from Dhaka-5 seat, Sayeed Khokon's wife independent candidate Farhana Sayeed from Dhaka-6 seat and Kazi Firoz Rashid of Jatiya Party, Biplab Chandra Banik of Zaker Party of Dhaka-7 Constituency, Md Nurul Islam Liton of Zaker Party of Dhaka-8 Constituency, Mohammad Mofiz Ullah of Zaker Party of Dhaka-9 Constituency, Nilanjana Rifat of JaSad and Md Lokman Sheikh of Islami Oikya Jote, Md Humayun Kabir of Zaker Party of Dhaka-10 Constituency, Md Masud Rana of Zaker Party of Dhaka-11 Constituency, Humayun Kabir of Zaker Party of Dhaka-12 Constituency, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam of Jatiya Party of Dhaka-13 seats, Zakir Hossain of Zaker Party of Dhaka-14 seats, Sheikh Shahidul Islam of Jatiya Party, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam of Jatiya Party, Humayun Kabir of Zaker Party of Dhaka-15 Constituency, Mainul Islam of Zaker Party, Aminul Islam of Zaker Party of Dhaka-16 Constituency, Ghulam Muhammad Quader and Salma Islam of Jatiya Party of Dhaka-17 Constituency, Kazi Md Rashidul Hasan of Zaker Party and Nazmun Nahar from Bangladesh Sangskritik Muktijot and Md Sharif Hossain of Zaker Party and Habib Hasan of Awami League in Dhaka-18 seats.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Party has withdrawn party candidates in six of the 15 seats in Dhaka City, but they have candidates in the remaining nine seats. Among them is Syed Abu Hossain Babla, the current Member of Parliament from Dhaka-4 Constituency.
Jatiya Party candidates in other constituencies of Dhaka are – Mohammad Saifuddin Ahmed Milon of Dhaka-7 Constituency, Juber Alam Khan of Dhaka-8 Constituency, Kazi Abul Khair of Dhaka-9 Constituency, Haji Md Shahjahan of Dhaka-10 Constituency, Shamim Ahmed of Dhaka-11 Constituency, Khorshed Alam Khushu of Dhaka-12 Constituency, Dhaka-15 Constituency’s Md Samsul Haque and Dhaka-16 Constituency’s Md Amanat Hossain.
