Update : 15 Dec 2023, 07:36 PM

Hasanul Haque Inu, president of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD), called for the final list of constituencies to be announced through a meeting with the prime minister.

He made the call in response to a question from reporters after a meeting organized by the Bangladesh Gano Azadi League at the National Press Club on Friday.

“We have humbly demanded the reconsideration of seats. We have said that the seven seats that have been proposed need to be increased and independent candidates need to be withdrawn from the alliance candidates’ seats,” said the JaSod president.

JaSoD has accepted Amir Hossain Amu's proposal as a preliminary proposal and called for reconsideration, said Inu.

Meanwhile, Inu, regarding Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that there is no scope to leave more than seven seats for the allies, said: “14-party coordinator Amir Hossain Amu and Awami League general secretary have expressed their opinion. We are talking about our demand for a reconsideration of the proposal.”

In response to the question of what JaSoD will do, if there is no settlement, the leader said: “Let's see what the outcome of the review is! Then we will give our answer.”

He also said that 14 parties are in talks with Awami League and have reached an agreement.

“We have given importance to this matter with dignity. We haven't talked about it yet. The point raised is debatable. There is still time. I think it is almost finalized by our party. But our discussion will continue in the coming days.”

The ruling Awami League (AL) has primarily decided to share seven constituencies with the partners of the 14-party alliance to contest the January 7 general election.

The decision was taken in a meeting with the partners on Thursday night, Awami League Presidium Member and alliance coordinator Amir Hossain Amu told the media.

Before reaching the decision, the Awami League sat with the allies several times.
