National polls: Hero Alom's nomination cancelled

  • His affidavit did not have a signature
  • There was an error in the tax return
Update : 03 Dec 2023, 02:54 PM

The nomination of Ashraful Hossen Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom has been cancelled for the Bogra-4 seat.

Senior Election Ofiier Mahmud Hasan confirmed the matter and said: “Hero Alom's nomination has been cancelled because his affidavit did not have a signature. There was an error in the tax return. He can appeal the decision tomorrow (Monday).”

Hero Alom said: “I will appeal tomorrow (Monday).”

On Thursday afternoon, Hero Alom’s personal assistant Sujan Rahman Shubo submitted nomination papers to the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Saiful Islam.

He clarified that initially, he mistakenly withdrew the nomination from the Supreme Party but later corrected it by submitting his nomination to the Gono Odhikar Party.

His personal assistant Sujan Rahman Shubo said that the nomination papers were submitted to Bogra Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Saiful Alam around 4pm on the last day of the nomination submission period (Thursday).

Hero Alom previously contested the Bogra-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) constituency as an independent candidate in the 11th national election but was defeated.

Subsequently, BNP MPs resigned from Bogra-4 and Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituencies, leading to vacant seats. Hero Alom participated in the by-elections for these constituencies but faced defeat again, alleging rigging.
