Election Commissioner Md Alamgir on Monday said that the Election Commission has no plan to change the schedule of the 12th national parliamentary election.
Md Alamgir said: "We have announced the schedule of the election. Now the elections will be held on January 7. We have no intention of changing this schedule. But if BNP decides to come to the election, then we will consider rearranging the schedule.”
He said these things in a meeting at the conference room of deputy commissioner of Faridpur with the election-related officials of the 12th national parliament election on Monday afternoon.
Alamgir said: "Whether the BNP will participate in the election or not is a fact of their political decision. In this regard, the chief election commissioner said that if we do not hold the election, a constitutional void will be created. It will lead to anarchy which will disrupt the wheel of our economy.”
“This time, there are observers from local and foreign organisations to monitor the election. What responsibilities we need to fulfil are written in the Constitution. If someone does not want to participate in the election, we can invite them to join the election. We have nothing to do without this,” said the commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md Kamrul Ahsan Talukdar presided over the meeting.
Election Commissioner Md Alamgir visited Gopalganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Madaripur, and Shariatpur districts from November 26 to 28 on the occasion of the 12th national parliament elections.
As part of that, he held this exchange meeting on Monday afternoon.
