The Election Commission (EC) has assigned the duty of returning officers to deputy commissioners and assistant returning officers to upazila nirbahi officers (UNO) in the 12th national parliamentary elections.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal disclosed the information while announcing the schedule.
The appointment of 66 returning officers and 592 assistant returning officers have been finalized, says CEC.
In response to a question from the journalists, EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam said: "Regarding the returning officer, the CEC has already announced that there will be 66 returning officers.”
Divisional commissioners for Dhaka and Chittagong cities and 64 deputy commissioners for 64 districts will perform the duties of returning officers. Along with this, 495 UNOs will perform the duties of assistant returning officers.
Apart from this, different officials will perform the duties of assistant returning officers in metropolitan areas, cantonment areas and those areas where the upazilas are divided into multiple constituencies.
In response to another question, he said: "District election officers will serve as election assistant officers."
The 12th national parliamentary election will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
