Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal will address the nation and announce the schedule for the upcoming general election at 7pm on Wednesday.
Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter at a press briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka in the morning.
The secretary said the commission would hold a meeting beforehand at 5pm where it would set the schedule.
The commission was announcing the schedule because conditions were now suitable to do so, he added.
Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will broadcast Awal's speech.
The announcement will come amid the BNP's 48-hour blockade, which aims to mount pressure on the Awami League government to resign and make way for the election to be held under a non-partisan administration.
Security has been beefed up in the Nirbachan Bhaban area ahead of the announcement.
