Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Elections Returning Officer Abdul Baten has said that the balloting is ongoing in a fair and peaceful manner across the city.
He made the remark while visiting a polling centre on Tuesday.
Abdul Baten said there was a problem with the EVMs in one or two centres, but it was fixed immediately.
Regarding the fingerprints of some voters not matching, the returning officer said: "The weather was foggy and cold in the morning. Many people may have faced problems as their fingers were due to the cold.”
Jatiya Party mayoral candidate Mustafizar Rahman Mostafa complained in the morning that he could cast his at first due to EVM malfunction.
When asked about this, Abdul Baten said: “I spoke to the presiding officer after hearing about his complaint. There was no EVM error. A voter was casting his vote. He was asked to wait. But instead of doing that, he is trying to make EVMs and elections controversial.”
Balloting for 33 wards of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) began at 8am on Tuesday.
The voting will take place via electronic voting machines (EVM) at 229 centres till 4pm.

There are a total of 4,26,470 listed voters in Rangpur city, which sees its fourth election on Tuesday.
The Election Commission has in place six-tier security measures for the RpCC polls on Tuesday.
Nine candidates are vying for the mayoral position and 183 people are contesting councillors' posts under 33 wards. Sixty-eight female candidates are contesting in the polls for 11 reserved seats.
Members of different law enforcement agencies, including police, Ansar and village police, Armed Police Battalion (APBn), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are on the ground across the city.
