Electoral symbols have been allotted to the candidates contesting the by-election to Chittagong-10.
Returning Officer Md Hasanuzzaman distributed the symbols to the candidates at the conference room of the regional Election Commission office on Thursday.
Trinamool BNP candidate Deepak Kumar Palit received the golden scale symbol, independent candidate Manjurul Islam Bhuiyan rocket, Awami League candidate Md Mohiuddin Bachchu boat, Jatiya Party candidate Md Samsul Alam plough and Rashid Mia of Bangladesh Cultural Liberation Alliance received the symbol “Chhari.”
Returning Officer Md Hasanuzzaman said symbols were allocated in the presence of all the candidates.
“Now the candidates can start their campaign. However, the electoral code of conduct cannot be violated in any way. They have already been warned about this,” he added.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of former lawmaker and minister Dr Afsarul Amin last month.
Afsarul Amin was elected as a member of parliament in 2008, 2014 and 2018 from Chittagong-10.
People will cast their votes using electronic voting machines throughout July 30. CCTV cameras will be installed at all polling stations for the smooth holding of the election, EC sources said.
