Voter list updating: Data collection begins May 20

Data will be collected for those who were born between 2004 and 2007

The Election Commission will begin door-to-door voter information collection activities from May 20 to update the voter list. 

"The EC officials will collect data on the persons born between January 1, 2004 and January 1, 2007. Initially, this program will run in 135 upazilas for three weeks,'' EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath told reporters on Sunday. 

Information on citizens aged 15 to 18 years and the dead would also be collected during the period. The dead voters' names would be removed from the voter list, said the official. 

Ashok said: “After data collection, the voters will be asked to visit designated centres for photographs, biometrics and related procedures. The centres have not been finalized yet.”

Earlier, voter information was collected in 2019.

According to the EC, there are a total of 113.3 million voters in the country. Of them, 57.6 million are male, 55.6 million female while 454 are transgender voters.
