EC identifies 85 polling centres as 'important' in Madaripur

Additional members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed at the risky polling centres

The Election Commission has identified 85 out of the total 376 polling centres in Madaripur as "important" ahead of the upcoming general election scheduled for Sunday.

Additional members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed at these risky polling centres to maintain security, said an Election Commission statement issued on Friday morning.

According to district election office sources, the risky polling centres include seven out of a total 101 in Madaripur 1 constituency, 19 out of 141 in Madaripur 2, and 59 out of 134 in Madaripur 3.

District election official Md Moniruzzaman said: “To create a safe voting atmosphere for voters, there will be two police officers, 12 Ansar men as well as Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials patrolling at each of the polling centres.

“In addition, army will be present as striking force and 14 executive magistrates and six judicial magistrates will be on duty as well in the district. Extra law enforcement personnel will be deployed at risky centres as well.”

Madaripur Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Returning Officer Md Wahidul Islam said: “The administration has taken enough preparation so that voters can cast their votes without any fear on the election day.”

“There will be army, police, BGB, Ansar and RAB for the security of the voters’ and extra security will be deployed at the risky voting centres as well on voting day,” The DC added.
