Singer Kanak Chapa to contest Sirajganj 1 constituency from BNP

The singer is contesting against Awami League Presidium Member and current Health Minister Mohammad Nasim

Singer Kanak Chapa will contest from Sirajganj 1 constituency as the BNP candidate for the upcoming 11th general election scheduled to be held on December 30.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir declared her candidacy in a press briefing at the chairperson’s Gulshan office on Friday.

The singer is contesting against Awami League Presidium Member and current Health Minister Mohammad Nasim.

Previously, the candidacies of two BNP aspirants, Nazmul Hassan Talukdar and Selim Reza, were initially declared illegal who will now have to withdraw their candidacy.

The constituency has Kazipur Upazila and Mechra, Ratankandi, Bagbati, Chongacha, and Bahuli unions of Sirajganj Sadar.

According to the Election Commission the total number of voters from the seat are 345,676, among which 173,952 are female and 171,724 are male.

Al Amin Siraji of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and an independent candidate, Tanvir Shakil Joy, are also contesting from the seat.

December 9 is the last date for nomination withdrawal of the candidates.
